The Thurgood Marshall College Fund and Sphinx Educational Fund are proud to present the 7th Annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund Brunch, to be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Wyndham Hotel, located at 50 East Adams Street in downtown Phoenix.  Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall was a shining example of the commitment to leadership, excellence and compassion for which both Funds stand.  Accordingly, the Sphinx Educational Fund is proud to present this event in conjunction with the College Fund that bears Justice Marshall’s name.

With this goal and our local community in mind, we respectfully urge you to participate as a sponsor of this magnificent, tax-deductible, event which will promote awareness of educational issues and celebrate community contributions from local citizens.

The 2010 Brunch theme is “Investing in Today’s Youth for a Positive Return Tomorrow”. The keynote speaker for this year’s event is Harry E. Johnson, Sr., President of the Washington, D. C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc.   Mr. Johnson also serves as an adjunct professor of Law at Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law and serves as a Board member of National Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

In addition to the keynote address, we will continue our tradition of presenting the Thurgood Marshall Award of Merit to an Arizonan whose actions have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to making our community better.   This year’s honoree is political leader Calvin Coolidge Goode. Goode served eleven consecutive terms, a total of twenty-two years, as a representative to the Phoenix, Arizona City Council.  As a Phoenix city councilman, Goode championed a range of programs, from Head Start to downtown renewal projects.  Further, he was instrumental in getting the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday observed in the City of Phoenix, paving the way for the holiday to be observed statewide.   To commemorate his service to the city, a Phoenix municipal building was named in Goode's honor.

Please join us as we come together to celebrate the life and legacy of the Honorable Thurgood Marshall.  We respectfully request your support in the form of a sponsorship commitment.  Please review the sponsorship page for more details on sponsorship and support and contact our planning team at (602) 695-3837 to share with us the sponsorship level you have selected.
