Scottsdale, Arizona – August 1, 2010 - Capoeria Brasil Arizona & Grupo Liberdade will team up on September 10th to bring you “BRASIL FEST ‘10”, the first annual Brazilian Cultural Event in celebration of Brazil’s Independence (officially September 7th) one of Brazil’s most important action packed days of celebration to the heart of Scottsdale. The Brazilian spectacle includes various aspects of Brazil’s vibrant culture with authentic demonstrations of Brazilian music & dance, Capoeira, costuming, drumming, performance, music, art, food and more. This special event will be unlike anything Arizona has ever scene with an energetic 2-Day event starting with the main Party at 9pm, Friday September 10th 2010 and ending on Saturday September 11th with Capoeira Brasil’s Batizado all unfolding at the Martini Ranch,

The festivities open with a Capoeira roda featuring Mestres “Masters” from all over the world being flown in especially for Brasil Fest '10 to share their incredible skills.  This demonstration will include awe-inspiring flips, kicks and traditional Capoeira music setting the tone for the event with unequaled talent & grace.   Meanwhile in the room next door, New York DJ Sean Marquand will bring his deep knowledge and deep crates to Spin all things hot & vintage-Brazilian: from Bossa Nova and straight-up samba to the samba-rock of Jorge Ben, seventies Rio-style funk and beyond.


The main event will take over when Grupo Liberdade, Arizona’s premier Batucada band, perform their hypnotic sounds of Samba, Samba–Reggae, Côcos, Ijexá, Axé and Maracatu.  As the drums ignite, prepare yourselves for Maculelê dancers to enter the room, brandishing sticks in their hands performing the traditional Brazilian dance/fight Maculelê followed by the beautiful Samba dancers known as SambAZ! Comprised of over sixteen of the best dancers in the valley, these girls offer a visual feast as they radiate sheer energy and passion incorporating the beauty, grace and spirit of authentic Brazilian culture.  Late night, Grupo Liberdade will bring a special set of Brasilian Music to take the vibe even higher featuring the full 10-piece band with special musical guests adding sonic surprises that will have the Martini Ranch bouncing into the night with the deepest organic Brasilian grooves.


Festivities on the night will be a complete sensory experience as a massive sound & lighting system fill the Martini Ranch both indoor & outdoor with the sounds of Brasil. As your ears & eyes feast on the beautiful music & dancers, Traditional Brazilian food will be getting served up by local Brasilian Chef, Mercedez & Co.  Sip on Brazilian Drink specials prepared exclusively for Brasil Fest ’10 and enjoy live art performances by local artists Banding Hendrix & Closer ( painting live on canvas with a focus on Brazilian Culture.  SambAZ Dancers will mingle with guests as our professional photo & video crew document the experience!  Also included in the night will be multi-media VJ’s from Latest Craze Productions, merchandise tables, and Prizes for Best Samba Dance performer.

Brasil Fest ‘10 is more than just an event. Grupo Liberdade promotes Community, Leadership & Empowerment through its music drawing upon the traditional & contemporary rhythms of Brazil & the Americas. Composed of an incredible line-up of world-class musicians, Grupo Liberdade specializes in moving the people with Afro-Brazilian Batucada rhythms & songs from a wide range of styles including Samba, Samba-Reggae, Côcos, Ijexá, Maracatu, MPB and more. /


CAPOEIRA BRASIL ARIZONA:  Capoeira is a martial art disguised as an improvisational dance, and was developed by African slaves on Brazilian soil roughly 500 years ago. As Arizona's premier capoeira institution for over 9 years, Capoeira Brasil Arizona prides itself in performing the style and discipline found in capoeira's historic roots. Along with an exciting physical performance, Capoeira Brasil AZ performs traditional capoeira music and dances.


DJ SEAN MARQUAND:  New York-based dj and record producer.  His legendary weekly Brazilian Beat Brooklyn party, featuring a collection of 60s and 70s rarities, ran for over eight years.  He has traveled extensively as a DJ of Brazilian music and released several compilations, two put out by Mr. Bongo UK.  As a producer, Sean has worked with NY-based bands and international artists, notably Brazilian '70s soul legends, Banda União Black.  Sean's recent successes have involved the Phenomenal Handclap Band, a project he began with fellow producer Daniel Collás. The debut album featured cameos from Jon Spencer, TV On the Radio, and Lady Tigra.


SAMBAZ: Comprised of some of the best dancers in the valley, led by Angelique Starks, these girls offer an incredible array of costumes and choreography drawing from the dance traditions of Brazil.  The ensemble is comprised of over sixteen beautiful and passionate dancers that engage the audience to create a breathtaking experience of Brazilian beauty, grace and culture performing to the hypnotic sounds of in-your-face Samba!
