Local Toastmaster club earns high distinction with the Smedley Award.

"To achieve the Smedley Award is no easy Toastmaster feat," Club President Tamala Daniels said. "Our club has worked hard and deserves this distinction."

The Smedley Award is named after the founder of Toastmasters International Ralph Smedley. It is given to a club that has gained five new members between August and September.

"Gaining five new members in two months has really jump started the club," Daniels said. "Our newest members are helpful and lovely."

New member Ahab Salem is proud that he helped the club achieve this award.

"Toastmasters has helped me improve my speaking considerably in these past few months, " Salem said. "I recommend it to anyone who has trouble with public speaking."
