Phoenix, AZ – February 9th, 2016 – Rebel Salon & Vintage is pleased to present Antoinette Cauley’s 3rd annual solo Art Exhibition- Barz to Brushstrokes on Saturday February 20th, from 7-10 p.m.
This is the must see art show in the city of Phoenix for 2016! Through silhouettes transformed into psychedelic galaxy patterns, vibrant colors and gold text accents, Antoinette tells the story of her life one bar at a time. “Hip Hop is my drug of choice and my art is its side effect.” says Antoinette. “People often ask me why I incorporate rap music into my art so often, so I decided to show them. It’s more than music. It’s helped me tremendously on my journey to self-love, happiness and turning my dreams into reality. I wanted to put together a collection of work that was a visual representation of how much music really influences me. I think people are really going to connect with this work more than anything I’ve ever done.”
The night will be filled with music, light food, beverages and a chance to meet the artist herself. The show will also feature work from a very special guest artist, Haley Pennington who has spent time studying under Antoinette. Haley is a 15 year old high school sophomore and aspiring artist. She will be displaying work for the first time ever as Antoinette’s very first guest artist. A variety of merchandise as well as goods at the Rebel Salon & Vintage will be on display for visitors to purchase as well as the paintings and drawings in the exhibition. Several prints, shirts and other merchandise will also be available for purchase. This is a free event that is open to the public.
About Antoinette Cauley:
From an early age, Antoinette found comfort and security in her set of pencils and sketch pad. She would spend hours a day at school, her local Boys & Girls Club and at home drawing. Throughout her teenage years, Antoinette was able to perfect her color pencil technique and advance in to college level art courses as a high school student. Art seemed to be the only thing that ever made sense to Antoinette. Her ability to create art was the only real sense of stability she found as a youth. She knew that she had been given a special gift to create and that one day she could use it to change lives. It was her lifeline, her way of escaping the everyday struggle she and her family had to face.
Being a Phoenix native, Antoinette’s work is very reflective of her city- the gritty and the beautiful. Her work is heavily influenced by rap music and hip hop culture with a focus on social injustice and politics. She combines the grittiness of inner city turmoil, war and tragedy with the beauty of music, vibrant color, texture, pattern and an emotionally driven message.
Currently Antoinette works as a full time artist in her studio in Phoenix, Arizona. She also works with youth ages 5-18, teaching art classes that focus on drawing, painting and color theory.
