PHOENIX, AZ - The State of Black Arizona, an independent, nonpartisan organization that informs Arizonans on the status of African Americans in the state, hosts its first State of Black Civic Participation report in partnership with the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership, Arizona African American Caucus, and YWCA Stand Together Arizona Training & Advocacy Center. On December 1, 2017 in both Phoenix and Tucson we will present nonpartisan data on voters and explore ways to engage more Arizonans. Our goal is to inform, strengthen and empower our community to make voting and civic participation a cultural responsibility and tradition.

The State of Black Arizona has received numerous inquiries in regards to data about civic participation and leadership in our community. We now see a chance to raise awareness about civic participation, share information from many perspectives about opportunities for involvement, encourage potential leaders to be more active in their communities and at the state level.

"Having a detailed and comprehensive understanding of the civic landscape in Arizona allows us to create opportunities for our community, build a bench of future leaders and ensure representation throughout the state." - Quiana Dickenson, Chair of Arizona African American Caucus.

About the State of Black Arizona

The State of Black Arizona creates a platform for the synthesis of data, demographics, and research that informs the community on the status of African Americans in Arizona. The data is intended to help community leaders and organizations with action planning and decision-making related to the issues and concerns of the state. We believe as a result of this work, the data will compel both the decision-makers and the grassroots community to move towards concerted efforts that provide solutions to improve the lives of all Arizonans.
